My
Watermelon by Colleen Gallagher
First I
plant a seed and it grows.
I'll watch it grow on the vine and soon
it will be time.
Yes, it is time to pick the melon.
Now it's time to slice it.
Finally we get to eat!
Watermelon is good for me!
Below is a
picture of some pages from my emergent
reader.
Students can read and color the pages.
The last page asks them to draw a picture
of themselves eating a watermelon!
This emergent reader is in the Back to
School Packet. Click

ONE
IN A MELON PHOTO MAGNET CRAFT KIT
Item
Number: IN-48/2412
This
would make a great bboard
entitled:
"Grade 2 is One in a
Melon!" - students pictures
in a melon! The craft above comes
from oriental trading. You get a
set of 12 crafts for under $6.00.
I like these becuase all you have
to do is hand out a bag to each

The
Watermelon Song
(tune: Frere Jacques)
Watermelon, watermelon,
Tastes so yummy, tastes so yummy,
Green on the outside,
Red on the inside,
With black seeds, with black
seeds.

Watermelon,
everywhere,
On my face and on my hair.
On my fingers, on my toes,
Watermelon on my nose.
{point
to nose}
This
may seem funny,
But best in my tummy!
{rub tummy}
This may look funny,
But its best, in my tummy!

Down
By The Bay
Down
by the bay
Where
the watermelons grow
Back
to my home
I
dare not go
For
if I do
My
mother will say,
"Did
you ever see a bear
Combing
his hair?"
Down
by the bay.
Down
by the bay
Where
the watermelons grow
Back
to my home
I
dare not go
For
if I do
My
mother will say,
"Did
you ever see a bee
With
a sunburned knee?"
Down
by the bay.
Down
by the bay
Where
the watermelons grow
Back
to my home
I
dare not go
For
if I do
My
mother will say,
"Did
you ever see a moose
Kissing
a goose?"
Down
by the bay.
Down
by the bay
Where
the watermelons grow
Back
to my home
I
dare not go
For
if I do
My
mother will say,
"Did
you ever see a whale
With
a polka dot tail?"
Down
by the bay.
