I am bummed, I did not win the parent choice awards… Losing is no fun (unless I am losing weight)! Burgh Baby won. Congrats to that site! I know many of the 6,000 plus members on my mailring had been voting daily and many of my personal friends and family had been voting too. Thank you to all who voted for Teaching Heart Mom. It was an honor to be nominated for this award. I did say if Teaching Heart Mom won, I would do a week of free printables… We did not win. Still I would like to thank those that voted with one free printable...

I thought it would be a great idea to revisit traveling with kids, since I am getting ready to spend about 30 hours in the car… Don’t worry, I am an old pro! Thought I would take a moment to share some great links. I have big plans to share my traveling with kids tips this summer. I am working on a post that shares some great tips. Until then, these links should help a bit. Keep checking for my tips and happy traveling… One of my favorite gal pals (Ms. Amy) shared Geocaching, a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout...

The end of the school year is coming up quickly. I would like to share two great ideas for Teachers to give to their students as a farwell gift and something unique to give to your favorite teacher. The first is a poem (which I wrote that deals with playdoh and ending the year). You print the poem and the printable playdoh recipe on cardstock. Attach it to a can of playdoh and a cookie cutter and you are good to go. If you are interested in the poem printable, it is found on the Teaching Heart End of Year Packet which you can buy and...

Did you hear???? Teaching Heart Mom has been nominated for Best Pittsburgh Parent Blog in Nickelodeon’s Parents’ Picks Awards! We need your help to win! You can vote for us once a day, every day, from now until July 15 athttp://gocitykids.parentsconnect.com/parents-picks/pittsburgh-pa-usa/best-pittsburgh-local-blog Truthfully, I was a bit surprised to be nominated as a “Pittsburgh Parent Blog”, since the majority of my posts don’t mention Pittsburgh life or attractions… Still it is an honor and I do hope...

The dollar stores have out all of their summer fun treats; like, BEACH BALLS! Here are a few ideas of ways to use those beach balls. 1.) Write out the numbers on the top and bottom sections. Throw the ball gently to a child and they have to add the numbers where there thumbs are. 2.) Another game is to sit in a circle and count to a specific number. Whoever says that number has to go to the center of the circle. Keep going till there are two left. Everyone yells showdown and they play till we we have a winner . I have done this with...

Before you know it the End of The School Year will be here. I have a good idea for a Teacher Appreciation gift that I wanted to share with you and offer as a contest too! A must read book on my list is Have You Filled a Bucket Today. Through simple prose and vivid illustrations, this heartwarming book encourages positive behavior as children see how rewarding it is to express daily kindness, appreciation, and love. This book explains to children that we all carry an invisible bucket in which we keep our feelings about ourselves. When...

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs has always been on my top ten of favorite Children’s books. I used it in the classroom often around this time of year. It became a big part of my weather units. My son and daughter have been asking to have this read to them daily for the past few days. Fun to see them both (age differences in all) enjoying a story together. I was so excited when I found out that this book was going to be made into a movie. The last time I got this excited about a movie was when I found out that The Polar Express was...

Pittsburgh is going to the Superbowl again! I spent the majority of my life in the great town of Pittsburgh. Moved here in 1980. Moved away from 1998 till 2003. Love the town and convinced my Vermont raised hubby to live here FORever… My family (especially my bro) are huge Steelers fans. I never totally caught the fever. You can find me shopping when the game is one (because the stores are empty in this area when a Stillers game is on). I love the Penguins though and enjoy watching Hockey. Football, don’t get it and really don’t...
